It is called Lignosulfonate (sometimes referred to as “Lig”) and it is a dust control soil stabilization treatment? It is a naturally occurring polymer found in wood that acts like glue. Lignosulfonates work by binding the road surface particles together. Water evaporates from the lignosulfonate as it dries, and the dust particles are trapped by the high-viscosity, naturally sticky material. In addition, over time some of the lignosulfonates become completely insoluble due to solar heating.
The advantage of Lignosulfonate is that it is an environmentally safe product, non-corrosive and non-toxic. Also, lignosulfonates tend to be more effective than chlorides on gravel roads containing higher levels of sand. Plus, they are excellent for ungraded roads with years of accumulated tree sap residue: increased effectiveness.
“If you happen to drive through LIG after it has been applied to the roads and you have some on your vehicle, please note that it is water soluble and will wash off of your vehicle”.
You can drop it off at the Maintenance shop and leave it outside the door in a sealed container.
